Bible Reading Plans

You may be wondering, “why should I read through the Bible?” Here are a few reasons:

1. It is God’s Word. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us not only is it God’s Word, but it is also useful for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness.

2. It is the Lord’s desire that we spend time in it each day. In speaking of how we should study the Lord’s commands, He says in Deuteronomy 6:7, “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

3. It is one way that we show love to the Lord. In John 15:9 Jesus says, “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.”

So here are a few different plans to help you succeed in reading through the Bible this year.

1. You can read straight through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. This plan will help you.

2. This plan has three readings a day. Two of the readings are from the Old Testament and one is from the New Testament. This is my go to plan and it keeps you from getting bogged down in lineages.

3. This last plan is interesting. The Bible is not exactly a chronological book. There is overlap and different perspectives to the same event. This plan helps you read through the Bible from the earliest times to the most recent.
